March 22, 2007 - ORANGEBURG, S.C.--Appalachian State dropped a tough 4-3 decision at South Carolina State on Thursday afternoon in Orangeburg, S.C.
Highlighting the afternoon for the Mountaineers, Peter Jacobs (Pretoria, South Africa) won his tenth singles match of the season to improve to 10-1. Jacobs defeated SCSU's Dragan Bisercic 6-2, 7-6 on the No. 4 court.
Meanwhile, on the No. 3 court, senior Dimitar Dimitrov (Sofia, Bulgaria) won his sixth singles match in his past seven tries. Dimitrov is 8-3 in singles and 8-2 at No. 3 singles.
The Mountaineers lost the doubles point on Thursday in one of the closest doubles battles ASU has encountered this season despite the 3-0 score. Appalachian lost 8-6 at both No. 1 and No. 2, and 9-7 at No. 3.
The Mountaineers are 7-5. Appalachian State returns to the home courts in Boone on Saturday, March 24, for a 1 p.m. date with SoCon rival Chattanooga.

UNC Greensboro 4, East Carolina 3
GREENSBORO, NC ? UNC Greensboro won three singles matches and two of three doubles pro-sets ? both in tiebreakers ? to snap a defeat East Carolina, 4-3, and snap a four-match losing skid.
The Spartans, who last won back on March 2, raised their record to 5-9 on the season. East Carolina (6-9) had a two-match winning streak snapped.
All six singles matches were decided in straight sets, with each team winning three. Andrey Bubnow, Martin Redelinghuys and William Adeimy recorded wins for UNCG. Bubnov notched his team-leading 10th win of the season, including five this spring, with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Aleksy Kochetov at No. 1 singles.
The Spartans return to action this weekend when they visit Wofford on Saturday and Furman on Sunday.
