Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Western Carolina baseball player Greg Holland as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of March 21.
Holland, a junior from Marion, N.C., pitched in four games last week in relief and posted two saves and seven scoreless innings for the Catamounts. Holland threw 2.2 scoreless innings on Tuesday in the 6-3 victory over No. 6 Clemson. He posted his first save of the week after throwing an inning and two thirds in the 10-9 win over Columbia last Friday. Holland allowed only two hits while striking out six for the week.
Off the field, Holland boasts a 3.385 GPA and is majoring in Natural Resources Management. He is a member of the 2006 Academic All-Conference team.
Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Kate Bowman (women’s golf), The Citadel’s Chris McGuiness (baseball), Davidson’s Matt Webb (baseball), Elon’s Gustaf Asplund (men’s tennis) and Wofford’s Brandon Waring (baseball).
