SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Elon’s Deanna Bailey has been named the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 20.

Bailey, a freshman from McDonough, Ga., led the Phoenix last week with two wins at No. 1 singles. She started the week with Elon’s lone win against #72 Davidson, topping Kelsey Linville 4-6, 6-3, 10-3 on March 13. Bailey then picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Georgia Southern’s Molly Maddox to lead Elon to a 4-3 win over the Eagles on March 19. Bailey also picked up a doubles win, an 8-5 win with teammate Jenn Tucci over Davidson’s Molly Maddox and Christine Caforio at the No. 1 slot. Bailey is 11-4 overall, all the No. 1 singles and 3-1 in conference matches.

Other top performers from last week include College of Charleston’s Chelsea Albertz, Chattanooga’s Anastasia Zhukova, Davidson’s Lora Dushanova, Furman’s Lauren Osborne and Wofford’s Merry Ellen Henry.
