ELON, N.C. ? Phoenix co-captain Austin Fenn out-dueled Perry Allen 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles, propelling No. 43 Elon to a 4-3 Southern Conference men’s tennis victory over previously unbeaten College of Charleston ? and avenging the Phoenix’s lone regular season league loss in 2006 ? Saturday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Cougars (8-1 overall, 3-1 SoCon) swept their way to the doubles point to open the match. Or Dekel and Marcus DiGliodo dispatched Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn 8-2 at No. 1, Justin Malina and James Petit decisioned Fenn and Sebastian Bredberg 8-4 at No. 3 and Allen and Omer Abramovich slipped past Anuwat Dalodom and Gustaf Asplund 9-8 (4) at No. 2.
Asplund tied the match up at 1-1, posting a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Petit at No. 5 singles.
Schermerhorn awarded the Phoenix (13-2, 4-0) the lead for good at 2-1, defeating Malina 6-2, 6-2 at No. 3. Gooch ? the 2006 Southern Conference Freshman of the Year ? extended the Elon edge to 3-1, beating Dekel ? the 2006 Southern Conference Player of the Year ? by a 6-4, 6-2 margin at No. 1.
After Fenn clinched the win for the Phoenix, College of Charleston salvaged the final two singles matches. Abramovich overcame Bredberg 6-4, 6-7 (0), 10-2 at No. 4 while DiGliodo downed Dalodom 7-6 (5), 6-7 (9), 6-2 at No. 2.
The Cougars will pay a visit to UNC Greensboro at 1 p.m. Sunday. Elon will visit Georgia Southern at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday before stopping by The Citadel at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
Davidson 7, Richmond 0
DAVIDSON, N.C. ? The Wildcat men's tennis team earned its third 7-0 win of the season when they blanked the Richmond Spiders on Saturday afternoon in the Knobloch Tennis Center. Davidson improved to 6-9 overall, while Richmond fell to 5-11 on the season.
Davidson made it four straight matches in a row by taking the doubles point to start the match. Of those four straight matches, the Wildcats have swept all three of the doubles matches in three of them.
The teams of junior Flaviu Simihaian and senior John Bolton, and junior Phillip Compeau and freshman Eric Noble each moved their winning streaks to four matches in a row in doubles action with 8-6 and 8-5 wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots.
Simihaian, Bolton and Noble then each scored singles wins as the Wildcats swept all six spots in earning the 7-0 win. The Wildcats No. 1 player, Simihaian, and their No. 6 player, Noble, needed just two sets to earn their eighth wins of the season.
Bolton ran his record to 3-2 when forced to a three-set match as he was victorious 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 over Michael Sommer at No. 2 singles.
Also winning was sophomores Scott Myers and Ethan Jaffee, and freshman Sam Burns.
The Wildcats head to nationally ranked Furman tomorrow for a 2:30 p.m. match against the Paladins.
Tennessee 6, The Citadel 1
The Tennessee men's tennis team defeated The Citadel 6-1 Saturday at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center to improve to 9-4 on the season.
The Vols swept the doubles portion to take an early 1-0 lead. Chris Racz and Derek Stephens won their first doubles match defeating Martin King and Frederic Petrilli 8-3 at No. 3 doubles. Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel clinched the point for UT with an 8-5 victory over Daniel Dossetor and James Eason at the No. 1 position. Cameron and Hensel have clinched the doubles point four times this season. Davey Sandgren and Kiril Tcherveniachki finished the sweep with an 8-5 win over Alberto Diaz and Derek Jose at the No. 2 spot.
Tcherveniachki improved to 10-1 this season in dual-match play with a 6-1, 6-0 win over King at the No. 4 singles position. Tcherveniachki, a senior, has won six consecutive singles matches.
Ben Rogers gave UT a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win over Diaz at the No. 3 position. Rogers is also having a stellar senior season. The Kingsport native, is now 20-9 this season in singles and 10-3 in dual-match play.
Racz, UT's only true freshman on this year's squad, clinched the match for Tennessee with an easy 6-0, 6-1 win over Petrilli at the No. 6 position. Racz is 6-0 in dual-match singles and 16-6 on the season.
Hubble gave UT a 5-1 lead with a dominating 6-0, 6-0 victory over Jose at the No. 5 position. Hubble is also undefeated in dual-match singles at 5-0.
Sandgren won his 12th three-set match of the season to close out the match. The redshirt-freshman defeated Dossetor 6-4, 5-7, 7-5 for his 22nd victory of the season.
Eason gave the Bulldogs their lone point of the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Stephens.
Tennessee finishes its doubleheader Saturday afternoon against Murray State at 3 p.m.

Appalachian State 5, The Citadel 2
Charleston, S.C. ? For the second straight match, The Citadel tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision as singles wins by No. 118 Daniel Dossetor and James Eason weren’t enough to pull the Bulldogs through against Appalachian State.. The Mountaineers recorded the Southern Conference victory at the Earle Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The 52nd-ranked doubles team of Dossetor and Eason recorded their 19th victory of the 2006-07 season as they recorded an 8-4 win over Appalachian State’s Ryan Brookshaw and Dimitar Dimitrov at No. 1 doubles. The nationally ranked Bulldog tandem is now 8-3 in dual matches and 2-0 in SoCon play.
The Mountaineers (6-4, 1-1 Southern) won the remaining two doubles matches to claim the doubles point. At No. 2 doubles, Trent Constance and Peter Jacobs took home an 8-3 win over Alberto Diaz and Martin King while Lee Floyd and David Doverspike won an 8-4 decision over Derek Jose and Frederic Petrilli.
ASU added to their score to start singles play off as David Doverspike recorded a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jerry Graham at No. 6 singles. The Citadel cut the lead to 2-1 as 118th-ranked Daniel Dossetor recorded a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles over Trent Constance. That victory extended Dossetor’s win streak to 10 straight singles victories.
The Citadel tied the match 2-2 as James Eason recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over ASU’s Ryan Brookshaw. Eason now pulls his record to an even 1-1 in conference play with the win. Peter
Jacobs gave Appalachian State a lead that they would not relinquish as he recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win over Martin King at No. 4 singles.
The Mountaineers clinched the match after Diaz fell to Dimitar Dimitrov at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-4. Closing out the match, ASU’s Lee Floyd recorded a 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 1-0 (10-4) win over The Citadel’s Derek Jose at No. 5 singles.
The Citadel (2-9, 0-2 SoCon) now hits the road and will play at No. 30 Tennessee on Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m.
Wofford 7, Liberty 0
SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Wofford men's tennis team captured victories in all six singles matches and two of the three doubles contests to post a 7-0 triumph against visiting Liberty Friday afternoon at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg, S.C. The match, originally slated for 1 p.m., did not begin until three hours later due to inclement weather.
Wofford (6-4) received wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles slot to earn the first point of the tilt. The freshmen pairing of George Kernodle and Christopher Williams handed Sebastian Pena and Juan Reyes a 9-7 defeat at No. 2, while senior Jeff Muthig and sophomore Scott Collins garnered an 8-1 victory at the No. 3 position against Luis Olivera and Fabricio Picanco. It marked the first doubles win of the season for the Kernodle and Williams tandem.
The Terriers continued their momentum with straight-set victories at all six singles slots. Junior Andrew Stubbs, a two-time All-Southern Conference pick, tallied a 6-3, 6-1 win against Jarda Trojan at the No. 1 position, while Kernodle registered a 6-1, 6-0 victory versus Chad Simpson at No. 2.
Collins also won, picking up a 6-1, 6-2 triumph against Pena during the No. 3 contest, while senior Alex Fridzon notched a 6-0, 6-0 blanking over Olivera at the No. 4 slot.
Junior Richard Cahi was also victories for Wofford, defeating Liberty's (3-8) Picanco, 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 5 position. Williams closed the match, completing the sweep, with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the No. 6 slot against Reyes.
The wins earned by Stubbs, Collins and Williams evens each of their singles records on the campaign at 5-5.
"After a tough fault loss to Indiana yesterday it was great to get win," said head coach Rod Ray. "We have a week before our next match, so we will take two days off from practice and get back to work on Monday. We are playing better than we were two weeks ago and with some strong conference competition coming up, the team is feeling pretty good. We are getting better in some specific areas. I am very pleased with today’s effort."
Wofford opened a five-match homestand with today's contest and will next welcome Southern Conference foe UNC Greensboro to the Reeves Tennis Center for a 2:30 p.m. match March 24. Liberty travels to Rock Hill, S.C., for a 1 p.m. Saturday meeting with Big South opponent Winthrop.
Florida Atlantic 6, Georgia Southern 1
BOCA RATON, Fla. ? The Georgia Southern men’s tennis team fell 6-1 at Florida Atlantic Friday afternoon.
Greg Bekkers picked up the lone win for the Eagles, defeating Daniel Vardag 7-6 (4-0), 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Joris De Weerdt fell 6-2, 6-2 at to Olivier Sajous at No. 1 and Emmanuel Nkoueleue lost 6-4, 6-4 to Karol Szmurlo at No. 2. Matthew Sands lost his No. 4 match 6-2, 6-2 to Corey Smith. Philip Prins fell 6-3, 7-5 to Eddie Majcher at No. 5 and Borja Malet lost 7-5, 6-2 to Lawrence Harradine at No. 6.
The Owls swept the doubles point. Nkoueleue/Prins fell 9-8 (3-0) in No. 1 doubles to Szmurlo/Smith. De Weerdt/Malet lost 8-6 to Sajous/Harradine at No. 2 and Shine/Sands fell 8-1 to Vardag/Majcher.
The Eagles return to Statesboro to face Southern Conference foe Elon on Tuesday, March 20.
