Greenville, S.C. ? The Furman women’s tennis team posted its third consecutive victory with a 6-1 win over the visiting Winthrop Eagles at Mickel Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon. The Lady Paladins (4-7) swept all three doubles matches and were winners in five of six singles matches.
Furman won the doubles point for the third straight match. Sophomore Laura Gioia and junior Natasa Manojlovic improved to 8-3 on the season with an
8-7 (7-5) win over Winthrop’s (2-11) Ana Paula Novaes and Patricia Coimbra at flight one. Furman’s number two and three tandems posted 8-4 wins to secure the first point of the match.
The Lady Paladins were victories at the top five singles flights, winning each in straight sets. Gioia, the Southern Conference February Athlete of the Month, extended her winning streak to nine straight with a 6-1, 6-3 defeat of Paula Novaes at the top singles position. Sophomore Lauren Tomory has lost only one game in her last two matches, topping Paula Pereira 6-0, 6-1 at flight five. Lauren Osborne, Bonnie Baird and Jacqueline Eckert also won their singles matches.
Furman goes on the road to challenge the No. 18 Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Saturday, March 17 at noon.

March 15, 2007 - ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla.--Appalachian State women's tennis downed Flagler College 5-2 on Thursday for its third win of its last four matches. ASU improved to 7-5 after the victory.
Anja Gugger and Amanda Cash got ASU started with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, continuing the pair's hot streak. Gugger is 4-1 when paired with Cash this year after beginning the season 2-3 at No. 1 with Monica Tomas. Mallory Cook and Caroline Mauch dropped the No. 3 match, but ASU was able to win the doubles point when Tomas and Lauren Holton were able to scrape out a 9-8 (7-4) win at No. 2.
The Mountaineers had an easier time in singles competition, winning four of six. Monica Tomas won easily at No. 1, and Anja Gugger defeated Leigh Ann Moss just as quickly at No. 2.
Lauren Holton and Mallory Cook also recorded wins for Appalachian on Thursday. Holton is 5-2 in her past seven matches, helping ASU go 4-3 in that span.
ASU will have a quick turnaround, travelling to Charleston, S.C. for a date with College of Charleston tomorrow. It is the Southern Conference opener for the Mountaineers.

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. ? The College of Charleston women’s tennis team dropped its match to #34 South Carolina, 6-1, at the Patriots Point Tennis Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C on Mar. 15. The loss snapped the Cougars’ eight-match winning streak.
The victory improves South Carolina’s record to 10-3, while Charleston drops to 8-2. The Cougars’ last loss came at #7 Clemson on Jan. 27.
The Gamecocks won all three of the doubles matches to earn one team point.
Anna Lee Evans gained the lone point for CofC with a 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 victory over Christyn Lucas in the #4 singles match. CofC’s Laura Borza’s six match winning streak was stopped by Natasa Vukovic of USC in a 6-0, 7-6 loss in the #3 singles match. Maxine Capewell of Charleston was able to extend her match to a third and final set before falling to Maranda Gutierrez, 6-0, 4-6, 6-1.
The Cougars will return to action on Mar. 17 at the Patriots Point Tennis Center against #73 Boston University beginning at 10 a.m. CofC’s scheduled home match against Appalachian State on Mar. 16 was postponed due to potential inclement weather.
South Carolina will face Troy University in Columbia, S.C. on Mar. 17 beginning at 1:30 p.m.
