ELON, N.C. ? Elon extended its winning streak to three consecutive victories, following its 7-0 Southern Conference men’s tennis triumph over UNC Greensboro Tuesday afternoon at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (12-2 overall, 3-0 SoCon) entered the contest ranked No. 43 nationally in this week's FILA Collegiate NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Rankings, up from No. 51 last week and No. 57 when it debuted in the poll the previous week.
Elon swept all nine matches from the Spartans (4-8, 0-3). In the doubles, Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn defeated Andrey Bubnov and Arsel Kumdereli 8-3 at No. 1, Gustaf Asplund and Anuwat Dalodom downed William Adeimy and Martin Redelinghuys 8-5 at No. 2 and Phoenix co-captains Austin Fenn and Sebastian Bredberg bested Taylor Befus and Jason Steinhorn 8-3 at No. 3.
In the singles, Gooch toppled Bubnov 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, Dalodom dispatched Redelinghuys 3-6, 6-2, 10-3 at No. 2, Schermerhorn ousted Kumdereli 6-0, 6-3 at No. 3, Bredberg turned back Ian Conchar 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, Asplund topped Steinhorn 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 and Fenn staved off Adeimy 7-6 (1), 6-4 at No. 6.
UNC Greensboro hosts Richmond at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the UNCG Tennis Courts. Elon hosts College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Appalachian State 5, Mercer 2
March 13, 2007 - SAVANNAH, Ga.--Appalachian State men's tennis continued its winning ways from Monday with a 5-2 victory over Mercer Tuesday in Savannah. The Mountaineers prevailed, 5-2, to improve their season record to 5-2.
Appalachian lost the doubles point 3-0, but came back to win five singles matches in the win.
Ryan Brookshaw at No. 2, Dimitar Dimitrov at No. 3, and David Doverspike at No. 6 each won their matches in straight sets.
At No. 4, Peter Jacobs slugged out a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 win. Jacobs improves to 5-1 on the season playing the majority at No. 4.
Lee Floyd won in three sets at No. 5, 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 to give ASU its second full-sets win of the day after not encountering full sets yesterday.
At No. 1, Trent Constance was defeated by Tobias Ohrstrom, 6-2, 6-2.

Mt. Pleasant, S.C. ? The College of Charleston men’s tennis team stayed undefeated with a 5-2 victory over cross-town foe, Charleston Southern, at the Patriots Point Tennis Center on Tuesday.
The victory improves CofC’s record to 7-0 overall, while Charleston Southern drops to 7-6.
The Cougars began the day with winning two out of the three doubles matches to earn one team point. The doubles team of Justin Malina and Jimmy Petit improved to 4-0 for the season with an 8-6 win over Quentin Guichard and Babar Akbar of Charleston Southern.
CofC then won four out of the six singles matches for the victory. CofC’s Or Dekel, who is ranked #112 in the nation for Division I Men by the FILA Collegiate Tennis Rankings, won his seventh singles match of the season by defeating Jonathan Dean 6-0, 6-2. Omer Abramovich of CofC also won his seventh match through a win over Steven Dean 6-0, 6-1. Both players are undefeated in singles action this season. Marcos DiGliodo and Malina also won singles matches for the Cougars.
The Cougars will return to action on Mar. 15 against Appalachian State at the Patriots Point Tennis Center beginning at 1 p.m. CofC has won its first two SoCon matches this season.
Charleston Southern’s next match will be against High Point on Mar. 16 in Charleston, S.C. beginning at 1 p.m.
