UNCG Places 16th at Lady Gator Invitational
GAINESVILLE, FL ? UNC Greensboro carded a team score of 326 on Sunday to finish 16th at the SunTrust Lady Gator Invitational hosted by the University of Florida.
The tournament, which featured nine of the Top 50 teams in the country, was won by host Florida. The 12t h-ranked Lady Gators shot a final round 291 to win by 14 shots over No. 28 TCU.
Gabby DiMora recorded UNCG’s best round on Sunday, carding a 79 to finish in a tie for 66th place. UNCG’s best finisher was Ashley Mylton in a tie for 62nd place.
Florida’s Sandra Gal held on for the individual title, shooting a 71 on Sunday to finish the tournament at even-par. The No. 2 ranked player in the country, Gal outdistanced TCU’s Catherine Matranga by five shots for the win.
UNCG returns to action April 6 when it co-hosts the Bryan National at Bryan Park Golf Club.

ASU Women Finish North/South Invitational Tied for Ninth
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Appalachian State University men’s and women’s golf concluded play Tuesday at the North/South Invitational, hosted by Butler University at Jacksonville Golf Club. Appalachian’s men placed seventh among 10 teams and the ASU women tied for ninth in an 18-team field.
Sophomore Casey Johnson was the top Appalachian finisher on either side, as his four-over-par 148 (75-73) tied for 11th in the 61-player men’s field.
Freshman Brooke DeHart paced the ASU women with a 15-over-par 159 (80-79), good for a tie for 19th among 100 individuals in the women’s field.
As a team, the Mountaineer men carded rounds of 304 and 305(+33-609) and finished 37 strokes behind champion Flagler. The Apps’ women shot 316 and 335, tied for ninth with Evansville at 75-over-par 651, 29 strokes back from champion Jacksonville.
Appalachian’s women begin play on Thursday at the NIU Snowbird Invitational in Tampa, Fla. (Pebblecreek G.C.). The men return to action next Friday at the Furman Intercollegiate in Greenville, S.C.

Wells continues strong play with second-place tying finish
JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla. -- Wofford sophomore Erin Wells registered her fourth-straight top-10 finish as the Terrier women's golf team concluded play Tuesday at the North/South Intercollegiate on the par 72, 5,835-yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Course in Jacksonville Beach, Fla. Wofford placed fourth out of 18 teams in the team standings.
Wells, who last week became the Terriers' first-ever individual medalist by winning the Diet Coke Wofford Intercollegiate, led after the opening 18 holes this week before tying for second place, along with Evansville's Crissy Higgins, with a 71-77--148 (+4). Jackson State's Shasta Averyhardt was the individual winner with a 1-over par 145.
The Louisville, Ky., product now has four-straight top-10 results this season and five overall in 2006-07. She tallied only one as a freshman last year. Her effort, combined with her teammates' strong opening round play, positioned Wofford in a first place tie following day one.
Senior Laura Parris again was the next Terrier on the leaderboard with a 14-over par 75-83--158 to tie for 17th. She finished two strokes ahead of rookie Ellen Kvarby, who tied for 23rd after posting an 82-78--160 (+16). The 78 Tuesday matches Kvarby's career-best round.
Fellow freshman Sarah Herbert was the other Wofford player to contribute to the team score. She shot an 84-85--169 (+25) to tie for 55th. Classmate Shelly McLaughlin was the final Terrier in the field, recording a 93-99--192 (+48) to finish in 88th place.
Jacksonville captured the team title, four shots ahead of Bethune-Cookman and Northern Iowa.
Wofford will conclude the regular-season portion of its slate April 2-3 at the Tina Barrett Longwood Invitational at the Poplar Hill Golf Club in Farmville, Va.
