The Southern Conference Sports Media Association announced the organization’s 2007 SoCon men’s basketball honorees.
UNC Greensboro’s Kyle Hines was named the conference Player of the Year in a vote of the group’s membership. The senior finished second in the league in scoring (20.4 ppg) and led the league in rebounding (9.0 prg).
Davidson guard Stephen Curry, who led the conference in scoring (20.7 ppg) was voted Freshman of the Year. Curry, son of former Virginia Tech and NBA standout Dell Curry, helped lead the Wildcats to the No. 1 seed in the conference’s tournament.
Davidson coach Bob McKillop was named the organization’s Coach of the Year after leading the Wildcats to a 26-4 regular season record. The Wildcats are the No. 1 seed in the Southern Conference Tournament after posting a 17-1 record in league play.
Davidson had three players selected to the sportswriter’s all-conference team, followed by Appalachian State, UNC Greensboro, College of Charleston and Georgia Southern with two each. Western Carolina, Furman, Chattanooga and Elon had one player each earning all-league recognition.
