SoCon Announces Track & Field Athletes of the Week

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Lanni Marchant? Chattanooga

Senior ? London, ON (Economics Major)

Lanni finished fourth at the Meyo Invitational held at the University of Notre Dame in an NCA provisional qualifying time of 16:39.92 in the 5,000 meters. Lanni leads the SoCon rankings by over a minute in the 5,000 meters and is also ranked first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:46.24. Congratulations to Lanni Marchant on once again being named the Southern Conference women’s athlete of the week.

 

Other top performers:

Kerrie Savery, Jr, Western Carolina (Palm Harbor, Fla., ? Biology Major) Kerrie won the 800 meters at the Akron Open with a school record time of 2:10.17. She also split 56.2 on the winning 4 x 400 relay team. Kerrie is from Palm Harbor, Florida and is majoring in biology with a 3.30 GPA along with being a SoCon TIAA Cref Award winner.

 

Jenna Wrieden, Graduate Student, Appalachian State (Arizona State ? Exercise Science) Jenna won the Akron Invitational 3,000 meter Gold Division with a time of 9:55.63, which currently ranks third in the SoCon standings. Her time was a personal best and ranks as the third best time in Appalachian State history. Jenna was an Academic All-American in cross country last fall and is from Glendale, Ariz.

 

Jessica Clendenning, Senior, Elon (Chesapeake, Va. ? Psychology 2.80 GPA) Jessica won the Carolina Invitational pole vault with a leap of 11-11.75 and is currently ranked first in the SoCon standings.

 

Raquel Ramseur, Junior, Western Carolina (Marketing & Sociology 3.21 GPA) Raquel won the 400 meters at the Akron Open with a school record performance of 54.53. She also ran 7.68 in the 60 meters currently ranking her second in the SoCon and split 55 on the winning 4 x 400 relay team.
