Chattanooga's Alex Anderson Earns Sixth Player of the Week Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 6.

 

Anderson, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., earned her sixth player of the week honor this season after leading the Lady Mocs to wins over Appalachian State and Davidson last week.  The forward notched her 13th double-double of the year in the 76-58 win over ASU on Thursday.  Anderson scored 24 points, grabbed 11 boards and tied a season-high with four blocked shots against the Mountaineers.  In the 70-65 win over Davidson on Monday, she blocked three shots, tallied 29 points and went 12-of-15 from the floor.

 

For the week, Anderson averaged a double-double with 26.5 points and 10.0 rebounds per game.  She leads the league in scoring (22.6) and rebounding (10.2) in conference games this season.  

 

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Carleena Costner, Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, UNCG’s KaLeah Latham, Western Carolina’s Lauren Powell and Wofford’s K.C. Correll.
