Davidson 5, Gardner-Webb 2

DAVIDSON, N.C. ? Davidson swept the doubles matches and recorded four of the six singles contests to win its third straight in a 5-2 victory over Gardner-Webb in men?s tennis action Sunday afternoon at the Knobloch Tennis Center. The triumph lifts the Wildcats to 3-1 on the young season while the Bulldogs fall to 0-3.

Like their first three duals of the 2007 season, the Wildcats led early after claiming the doubles point. As a club, Davidson is a perfect 12-0 in doubles competition this spring.

Flaviu Simihaian, Davidson?s top player, remains unbeaten (3-0) on the slate after defeating the Bulldog?s Kim Ellis in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2.

Gardner-Webb picked up wins from Evgeny Slesarev (6-4, 6-0) and Gabe Veiga (3-6, 6-0, 6-2) at the second and fourth spots, respectively, but those were the only points the Bulldogs would chart on the afternoon.

Davidson?s John Bolton clawed his way back from one set down to hold off Roberto Vasques (3-6, 6-0, 6-2), while Sam Burns and Eric Noble tallied key wins in the final two duals to secure the contest for the Wildcats.

The Wildcats will hit the road for their first match away from Davidson in a 2:30 p.m. affair at South Carolina Saturday, February 10.
