DAVIDSON, N.C. ? From top to bottom, the Davidson men's tennis team saw nothing but wins as they won ever singles and doubles matches in cruising to 7-0 wins over Queens and Wingate in a doubleheader at Knobloch Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. Davidson ran its record to 2-1 in the early stages of its season.
To start the day, the Wildcats grabbed a 1-0 team lead against Queens by taking the doubles point. The No. 2 and 3 doubles teams of junior Phillip Compeau and freshman Eric Noble, and sophomore Scott Myers and Amir Vaez gave up only a combined four games in winning their matches, 8-3 and 8-1.
Noble and Compeau then cruised in singles play to help Davidson to all six singles wins. The freshman Noble defeated Rob Stevens at No. 4 singles by the count of 6-1, 6-1, to earn his first collegiate win. Compeau followed him at No. 5 singles with an impressive 6-0, 6-0 win over Drew Hendricks for his first singles win of the year.
Noble then made it a clean sweep for him and the Wildcats in singles play when he scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Luis Ortiz of Wingate as Davidson once again earned wins at all six singles spots against the Bulldogs.
Fellow freshman Dave Warren and Sam Burns also earned their first career collegiate wins with victories at the No. 6 and 4 singles spots. Warren picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Felipe Fidalgo, while Burns defeated Brendon Molan by the count of 6-0, 6-2.
Sophomore Ethan Jaffee had himself a nice day, earning two singles wins and a doubles victory with Burns at the No. 1 spot against Queens. Jaffee moved to 2-1 on the young season in singles action with victories of 6-1, 6-3, and 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 and No. 1 spots against the Royals and Bulldogs.
Davidson will return to the courts tomorrow, Feb. 4, with a match against Gardner-Webb. Match time is set for 1:30 p.m.

Wake Forest 5, Elon 2
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. ? No. 26 Wake Forest dropped the doubles point, but came back to defeat Elon 5-2 in a non-league men's tennis match Saturday evening at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
The Phoenix (0-1) claimed an early 1-0 lead, thanks to victories in doubles play at No. 1 (Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn over Cory Parr and Charles Sartor 8-2) and No. 2 (Anuwat Dalodom and Gustaf Asplund over Andrew Hamar and Andrew Brasseaux 9-8).
The Demon Deacons (4-0) picked up a win at No. 3 doubles when Todd Paul and Jason Morgenstern beat Elon team co-captains Sebastian Bredberg and Austin Fenn by an 8-4 margin.
The Phoenix received a victory at No. 5 singles when Asplund rallied past Morgenstern 2-6, 6-4, 11-9, but Wake Forest captured the other five singles bouts.
Parr staved off Gooch 6-3, 6-4 at No. 1, Hamar overcame Dalodom 6-1, 2-6, 6-1 at No. 2, Mariusz Adamski dispatched Schermerhorn 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, Steven Forman held off Bredberg 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 and Brasseaux decisioned Fenn 7-5, 6-1 at No. 6.
On Sunday, the Demon Deacons host Old Dominion at noon at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center while the Phoenix will host three-time defending Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference champion and NCAA Tournament team South Carolina State at 2 p.m. at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
Georgia Tech 7, Georgia Southern 0
STATESBORO, Ga. ? The GSU men’s tennis team fell 7-0 at No. 27 Georgia Tech Saturday afternoon.
The Eagles only victory of the day came from Matthew Sands and Neil Shine as the pair defeated Scott Blackmon/George Gvelesiani 9-8 (7-5) at the No. 3 doubles slot. In No. 1 doubles, Emmanuel Nkoueleue/Philip Prins fell 8-4 to David North/Jose Muguruza and Joris De Weerdt/Greg Bekkers dropped their No. 2 doubles match 8-5 to Jordan DeLass/Eric Molnar.
De Weerdt fell 6-0, 6-1 to No. 36-ranked North in No. 1 singles. Nkoueleue lost 6-2, 6-3 to Jordan DeLass at No. 2. In No. 3 singles, Matthew Sands dropped his match versus Muguruza 6-3, 6-2. Bekkers fell at the No. 4 spot 6-1, 7-5 and Borja Malet was defeated by Gvelesiani 6-2, 7-5. Rounding out the day’s action, Prins fell 6-2, 6-2 to Austin Roebuck at No. 6.
The Eagles will open up the home portion of the schedule Sunday as they take on Florida A&M at the Hanner Fieldhouse Courts. Match time is set for 1 p.m.
