Mackey Leads Furman To Doubleheader Sweep of South Carolina State 7-1, 9-1

Orangeburg, S.C. ? Freshman Lana Mackey tossed a complete game to earn a victory in game one and went 2-for-2 with four walks as Furman swept a doubleheader from South Carolina State 7-1, 9-1 on Monday.

Mackey tossed seven innings allowing no earned runs on only five hits while fanning nine batters in game one.  Stephanie Cushing went 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Megan Jaudon collected two hits to pace the Lady Paladins.  Furman drew 10 walks but stranded 12 runners in the victory.

TaTreka Polite suffered the loss for the Lady Bulldogs after giving up three runs on four hits and six walks in four innings.  Krystal Anthony tallied two hits for South Carolina State.

In game two, Amber Kiser went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBI to lead Furman.  The Lady Paladins took advantage of six Lady Bulldog errors to complete the sweep.

Junior Blake Murray pitched a five-inning, complete-game to improve to 2-3 on the season.  The righthander limited South Carolina State to one unearned run on five hits while striking out six batters.

The sweep improves Furman to 4-5-1 on the season while South Carolina State falls to 1-7.  The Lady Paladins continue their road trip Wednesday with a 2 p.m. twinbill at Charleston Southern.
