SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Wofford’s Jennifer Weurding has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 20.
Weurding, a senior from Atlanta, Ga., led the Terriers to two overtime games against two of the top-four teams in the SoCon, including a win over Davidson on Saturday. The center recorded 13 points, two blocks and grabbed seven boards in Wofford’s 68-65 victory over the Wildcats. She also shot 67-percent from the field and netted a three-pointer. Weurding racked up a team-high 14 points in Wofford’s 71-66 overtime loss to UNCG on Monday night. She added four blocked shots and seven rebounds to her performance against the Spartans.
For the week, Weurding averaged 13.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 blocked shots per game. She is the league leader in blocked shots averaging 2.81 per game and currently holds the SoCon record for career blocks with 245.
Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Whitney Tossie, Chattanooga’s Laura Hall, Davidson’s Mercedes Robinson, Elon’s Tierra Bumbrey, Furman’s Katie Johnson, Georgia Southern’s Tiffany Brown, UNCG’s Brittany Frazier and Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson.
