Georgia Southern Softball Schedule Released
STATESBORO, Ga. --- The Georgia Southern softball team will host two tournaments and face three NCAA Tournament teams in their 2008 schedule released this week.
The season begins Feb. 7 at Savannah State and continues with road games at Mercer (Feb. 9) and Jacksonville (Feb. 13).
The first home date is the GSU Invitational Feb. 15-17. The homestand continues with North Florida (Feb. 20), the GSU Eagle Classic (Feb. 22-24) and Georgia State (Feb. 26).
The month of March sees the Eagles primarily on the road, but not before hosting new Division I member Presbyterian on the 5th. The team leaves Statesboro for tournaments at Auburn (March 7-9) and South Florida (March 14-16) and opens SoCon play at Furman (March 21-22). After a twinbill at NCAA Tournament participant Florida State on March 26, the Eagles play host to the College of Charleston in the final weekend of the month (March 29-30).
Georgia Southern welcomes Elon on April 5-6 and Florida A&M on the 9th. The homestand is broken up with a trip to UNC Greensboro (April 12-13) but continues with clashes against in-state rival Georgia Tech (April 16), Western Carolina (April 19-20) and Savannah State (April 22). The team closes out April with a series at Appalachian State (April 26-27).
GSU wraps up the regular season at home against Chattanooga (May 3-4) before heading out to the SoCon Tournament which lasts May 7-10 in Charleston. The last two seasons have seen the Eagles reach the tournament championship game, emerging as victors in 2006 to advance to their first-ever NCAA appearance.
“I am pleased with how our schedule is set up this year,” said head coach Natalie Poole. “I believe that we play a combination of teams that will be a challenge to us and others that will be confidence builders. We will be hosting two tournaments that will enable us to be home on back to back weekends. We will also see good competition in tournaments at Samford, Auburn, and South Florida. Our games in preseason will definitely prepare us to be successful for our regular season conference play.”
Chattanooga softball announces 66-game schedule that includes games against Alabama and LSU
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga softball team is set to take on some of the top teams in the game in pursuit of their ninth Southern Conference championship and sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2008.
The Lady Mocs schedule consists of 66 games, 35 home and 31 away, beginning on February 9, 2008 and includes a total of seven tournaments, four of which will be at Chattanooga’s Frost Stadium. Among the teams that UTC will face during the season are six schools that competed in the 2007 NCAA Tournament, including Alabama and LSU, both of whom advanced to the NCAA Super Regionals last season.
THE NON-CONFERENCE SLATE
The season will kick off February 9-10 when the Lady Mocs host the Chattanooga Shootout featuring Southeastern Conference foe Kentucky and Wichita State for two games each. Following a trip to Lipscomb University for a double-header, UTC will head down to Louisiana for the LSU Tournament featuring the Tigers, Ball State and St. Johns. Last season LSU finished with a record of 55-12 and made a second straight trip to the NCAA Super Regionals.
Following their action down in the bayou, the team will wrap up its road trip with a stop in Jacksonville, Alabama for a double-header with Jacksonville State before returning home for a 13-game homestand beginning with the Chattanooga Challenge Feb. 22-24.
The Lady Mocs will play five games in the Challenge as they host East Tennessee State, Big 12 representative Iowa State, Bowling Green, Bradley and Akron at Frost Stadium. Chattanooga will pick right back up with home tournament action following a single game against St. Francis on February 25 when they host the Frost Classic February 29 ? March 2.
Among the teams that Chattanooga will welcome to Frost Stadium for the Classic will be the University of Connecticut from the Big East, Marshall from Conference-USA and Indiana University from the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are one season removed from being an NCAA Tournament team in 2006 while the Thundering Herd was a C-USA semi-finalist last season before falling to the eventual champion Houston Cougars. Also on the tournament schedule will be Morehead State and Jackson State on the first day of the tournament.
UTC will wrap up it’s homestand with a double-header against Toledo on March 4 before heading down to Florida for 13 games during spring break. The Lady Mocs will take part in both the USF Under Armour Invitational (March 6-9) and the USF Speedline Invitational (March 14-16) in Tampa, Fla. In between these two tournaments that are hosted by the University of South Florida, Chattanooga will travel to South Fort Myers, Fla. take on first-year Division I member Florida Gulf Coast University in a double-header on March 12.
The Lady Mocs will play six games at the USF Under Armour Invitational, including contests against Missouri and Long Island University, two teams that qualified for last season’s NCAA Tournament. UTC will also take on high profile schools such as Purdue, Villanova and Central Michigan at the tournament before wrapping up with a sixth game in bracket play.
Following their trip to FGCU on March 12, Chattanooga will return to the University of South Florida for the USF Speedline Invitational. UTC will open with games against Dartmouth and Boston University on March 14 before facing Penn State, which has made it to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons. The Lady Mocs then close with a game against Liberty and a bracket game before returning home.
Upon their return to Frost Stadium, UTC will host the Chattanooga Showdown, a mini-tournament featuring Alabama and Kent State, on March 19. Alabama is one of the premier programs in the country and has qualified for the NCAA Tournament every year since 1999. The Crimson Tide have reached the College World Series four times in the past eight years, including in 2005 and 2006. Kent State is two years removed from the NCAA Tournament and finished last season with a record of 31-19 overall and 15-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
Alabama and Kent State will play the opening game at 2 p.m. before the Golden Flash and UTC meet at 4 p.m. The Lady Mocs and Alabama will play the night cap at 6 p.m.
Chattanooga will feature three additional non-conference double-headers during their conference season when they travel to Tennessee State on March 26 and host UAB on April 2 and Middle Tennessee State on the April 15.
THE SOUTHERN CONFERENCE SCHEDULE
The Lady Mocs will be aiming once again for the top spot in the Southern Conference when they open their 21-game conference schedule with three games against UNC Greensboro March 21-22 at Frost Stadium. They will follow that up by hosting one of last year’s SoCon finalists, the Western Carolina Catamounts, from March 29-30 before traveling to Boone, N.C. to face Appalachian State.
After three quick home games against the Elon Phoenix from April 12-13, followed by the MTSU double-header, the Lady Mocs will travel to Greenville, South Carolina to face the defending conference champion Furman Paladins on April 19 and 20.
Chattanooga will wrap up the home season with three games against the College of Charleston April 26-27 before heading to Statesboro, Ga. for a Southern Conference tournament rematch with Georgia Southern May 3-4.

UNCG announces 2008 softball schedule
GREENSBORO, N.C. ? UNC Greensboro softball coach Jennifer Herzig announced Thursday the schedule for the 2008 season, which is highlighted by an exhibition game with the USA National Team on their “Bound 4 Beijing” tour in April. The schedule also features five tournaments including the Southern Conference Tournament.
The Spartans open the season with two tournaments, starting in Jacksonville, FL at the Jacksonville University Tournament February 8-10. UNCG then comes home to UNCG Softball Stadium for the UNCG Spartan Classic on February 15-17. The Spartans welcome Cleveland State, James Madison, Niagara, Maryland-Baltimore County and Central Michigan for the three-day tournament.
“I am extremely pleased with the schedule that we were able to put together,” said Herzig. “We have some great teams on our schedule. The National Team exhibition game will be a once in a lifetime experience for our players and coaching staff.”
The Spartans will also compete at the UNC Wilmington Tournament (February 22-24), the East Carolina Pirate Clash (February 29-March 2) and the Georgia Tech Buzz Classic (March 7-9).
The non-conference slate features a distinctly North Carolina flavor with road trips to North Carolina State and Charlotte and home dates against North Carolina, cross-town rival North Carolina A&T and East Carolina.
The Spartans will also travel to Virginia Tech, Liberty and Radford for non-conference twinbills.
UNCG opens Southern Conference action at Chattanooga on March 21. The Spartans will also travel for SoCon match-ups with Appalachian State (March 29-30) and College of Charleston (April 19-20).
The Spartans open SoCon home action April 5 when they host Western Carolina. UNCG also welcomes Georgia Southern (April 12-13), Elon (April 26-27) and Furman (May 3-4) to UNCG Softball Stadium.
The 2008 Southern Conference Softball Tournament will take place May 7-10 in Charleston, SC.
Softball Announces 2008 Schedule
BOONE, N.C. ? A 22-game home schedule accents the 2008 slate of games for the Appalachian State softball team, announced head coach Amy Herrington on Wednesday. The Mountaineers will compete in tournaments at Kennesaw State, Eastern Carolina, Eastern Kentucky and Florida State Universities.
Herrington stated, “Not only is this my first year as a head coach, we will play nine teams for the first time. I’m excited to see how our team stacks up against the high quality of competition that we will face this season.”
NCAA tournament participants Furman, Penn State and Florida State also dot the schedule that will challenge the Mountaineers.
Opening day is February 13, as the Apps will travel to Charlotte for a doubleheader on the road against the 49ers. Four consecutive weekends of tournament play will follow to test the Mountaineer road warriors. While in tournament play, power conference members Purdue, Syracuse, Penn State, Connecticut and Florida State will test the Mountaineers.
“I can’t wait to play the bigger schools,” said Herrington. “Last season we nearly beat national runner-up Tennessee, so I believe we can compete with anyone.”
The home schedule opens on March 14 as Appalachian will host Florida Gulf Coast who is in their first season at the Division I level. SoCon foes Western Carolina, UNC Greensboro, Chattanooga and Georgia Southern will venture up the Mountain for three-game series at the ASU Softball Stadium, now in it’s second season. Non-conference rival East Tennessee St. makes the short drive to Boone for an April 9 meeting.
The regular season closes with a SoCon series against Georgia Southern on April 26 and 27. This year’s SoCon tournament will be held at the College of Charleston’s Patriots Point Athletic Complex.

Furman Softball Announces 2008 Schedule
Greenville, S.C. -- A 21-game home schedule and trips to the Auburn Tiger Invitational and Georgia Tech Buzz Classic highlight Furman’s 2008 softball schedule, released on Monday by fifth-year head coach Dana Jenkins.
The Lady Paladins, defending Southern Conference Tournament champions, will open the season hosting East Tennessee State in a doubleheader on February 9, at Pepsi Stadium before entertaining fellow NCAA Regional qualifier Winthrop for a twinbill on February 13.
Along with the Buzz Classic and Tiger Invitational, the 60-game 2008 slate also features trips to the Winthrop/adidas Invitational and home series against SoCon foes Georgia Southern, Appalachian State and Chattanooga.
The Lady Paladins will open their league schedule by hosting the Eagles for a three-game series March 21-22.
Furman returns five position starters and the bulk of its innings in the circle from a 2007 squad that claimed its first SoCon Tournament title in more than a decade. The Lady Paladins downed Georgia Southern in the SoCon finals with a dramatic extra-inning victory to advance to the NCAA Regional in Knoxville, Tenn., before falling to the host Lady Vols and Winthrop in the double elimination tournament.
