Alex Anderson Named Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga senior forward Alex Anderson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for December 18.

 

The Stone Mountain, Ga. native averaged 20.5 points per game last week in leading the Lady Mocs to victories over Alabama (62-34) and Furman (61-51). In the win over the Crimson Tide on Dec. 15, Anderson registered 14 points and five steals. Against the Lady Paladins, she notched the highest-scoring game in the Southern Conference this season with 27 points on 11-of-20 shooting (55 percent). In addition, Anderson extended her school record for career blocks to 175 with a pair of rejections against Furman.

 

This award is Anderson’s second player of the week nod this year and the 10th of her career.

 

Other top performances this week were turned in by College of Charleston’s Brooke Kotcella, Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka, Elon’s Kitara McMoore, Furman’s Katie Johnson, Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, UNC Greensboro’s Brittany Frazier, Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson and Wofford’s Liz Miller.
