SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Western Carolina senior guard Ashley Pellom has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for December 11.

In the Lady Catamounts’ only game of the week, Pellom notched her first career double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds in a 55-52 loss to Wake Forest in Cullowhee. Despite coming off of the bench for Western Carolina, Pellom has reached double digits in points in five of WCU’s first seven games this season. The Wilmington, N.C. native ranks fourth in the SoCon in scoring (12.6 ppg) and second in field goal percentage (52.7).

Other top performers this week were Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka, Furman’s Katie Johnson, Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, UNC Greensboro’s Brittany Frazier and Wofford’s Summer Nichols.
