SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? After completing a perfect regular season and winning its second-consecutive Southern Conference regular season championship, UNC Greensboro was rewarded by the league’s coaches with six first-team all-conference selections and seven players selected overall.
The Spartans’ Kristin Player was selected as the Southern Conference Freshman of the Year after leading all freshmen in scoring with nine goals and four assists, including a league-best five game-winning goals. Fellow Spartans who joined Player on the first team were forward Kelly Attayek, the league’s leading scorer in conference matches, midfielders Karla Davis and Jen Bronson, defender Jamie Corti and goalkeeper Katherine Ryan. In addition, UNC Greensboro coach Eddie Radwanski was named as the league’s Coach of the Year by his peers for the second season in a row. Spartans’ defender Lauren Lopez was a second-team honoree.
Furman also had seven overall all-conference selections, including Player of the Year Anna Betton. Betton was atop the SoCon standings in both goals scored (13) and assists (10) this season while leading the league’s highest-scoring offense to a third-place regular season finish. Joining Betton on the first team was Furman midfielder Rachel Fry. The Lady Paladins also had five players named to the all-conference second team, including two midfielders, Katie Tucker and Gena Villari, and three defenders, Ashley Creavalle, Kate Myatt and Mickey Palanza.
Davidson placed two players on the first team with sophomore forward Kyri Bye-Nagel (12 goals) and senior defender Nancy Haskell earning accolades. Sophomore forward Suzanne Sittko and senior goalkeeper Bevin English were the Wildcats’ selections for the second-team squad.
College of Charleston was represented on the all-conference first team by junior defender Danielle Jordan. Appalachian State’s Casey Cleary and Jaclyn Hoffman were selected to the all-conference second team as was Georgia Southern forward Ashley Toussaint.
