SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Wofford goalkeeper Joey Taylor has been named Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week following a standout performance at both ends of the field last week.
The junior from Spring, Texas registered two victories in goal, helping Wofford claim the South Carolina/Tennessee Challenge championship. Taylor made seven saves in a 4-1 win over Lipscomb Friday, and he earned his sixth shutout of the season on Sunday afternoon, stopping seven shots in a 1-0 win against Belmont. In addition to his efforts in goal, Taylor also provided the game-winning score against Belmont when he converted a penalty kick in the 68th minute to register his second goal of the season.
Wofford enters the upcoming Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Championship as the eighth seed and will travel to face top-seeded Furman Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in Greenville, S.C.
