SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Fourth-seeded College of Charleston and fifth-seeded Western Carolina will kick of the 2007 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship Sunday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.

 

The Catamounts will look to avenge a 2-0 loss at the hands of Charleston last month in Sunday’s first tournament match.

 

UNC Greensboro, the league’s regular season champion and the top seed in the tournament, hosts eighth-seeded Elon at 2:00 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. This will be the second-consecutive contest against one another for the local rivals, as UNCG defeated Elon, 3-0, Thursday night in the regular season finale for both squads.

 

Sunday’s third match begins at 3:00 p.m. when second-seed Davidson takes on Wofford, seeded seventh. The Wildcats and Terriers battled to a 0-0 draw on October 12, marking Davidson’s only tie in an 8-1-1 Southern Conference regular season.

 

At 5:00 p.m., Furman and Appalachian State, the tournament’s number three and six seeds, will fight for a semifinal berth in Greenville, S.C. During the regular season, these two teams delivered one of the highest-scoring matches of the season when Furman overcame a Casey Cleary hat-trick to win 4-3 in Boone.

 

The semifinal and championship rounds of the 2007 Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Championship will be held at Alumni Soccer Stadium on the campus of Davidson College Friday, November 9 and Sunday, November 11.
