Anderson Selected Women's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Chattanooga senior forward Alex Anderson has been named the Southern Conference women’s basketball player of the week for all games played this season through November 19.

 

Anderson, the league’s preseason Player of the Year, started off the 2007-08 campaign right where she ended last season by scoring 26 points and pulling down 15 rebounds in the Lady Mocs’ 64-50 win at Austin Peay on opening night. Two days later, Anderson registered an eight-point, nine-rebound performance against No. 1 Tennessee (56-76). She completed her strong opening-week performance with game-highs in points (24) and rebounds (9) in a 65-55 win over Clemson on Nov. 17.

 

In total, Anderson averaged 19.3 points and 11 rebounds per game, and she currently leads the SoCon in both categories. The Stone Mountain, Ga. native also chipped in six assists, six steals and seven blocks in three games.

 

Other top performers in the opening two weeks of the season were Georgia Southern’s Shawnda Atwood, Elon’s Tierra Bumbrey, Davidson’s Kelsey Cary, UNC Greensboro’s Monique Floyd, Furman’s Katie Johnson, Wofford’s Liz Miller, Western Carolina’s Ashley Pellom and Appalachian State’s Whitney Tossie.
