College of Charleston Wins Volleyball Championship

No.1 College of Charleston 3, No.6 UNC Greensboro 1

(30-21, 27-30, 30-28, 30-23)

Chattanooga, Tenn.- Tiffany Blum, The Most Outstanding Player of the tournament, led the Cougars with 22 kills and a hitting percentage of .370.  Emily Sawin, a member of the all-tournament team had 19 kills and a hitting percentage of .350. 

College of Charleston won its fourth consectutive Southern Conference Tournament.

In game one, Tiffany Blum with six kills and Annie Uthe with five kills paced the Cougars offense.  UNC Greensboro jumped out to a 9-4 advantage with the help of five errors by the Cougars and kills by Nortz and Lindborg.  Blum, Kane, and Sawin all had kills in the Cougars 8-2 run to take the lead 12-11.  The Cougars went on mini runs of four, three and two to take the at 25-19.  A kill by Uthe and Blum gave the Cougars a victory at 30-21.

Game two saw the Cougars get off to a quick start with a 7-4 lead but the Spartans came back with a 8-5 run of their own to tie the game at 12-12.  The Spartans went on a 9-7 run to take the lead at 21-19 but the Cougars fought back to tie the game at 22-22 on a Cole Dawley kill.  The Cougars closed out the game on a 9-2 run to win 30-27.

The Spartans took a 13-7 lead on the Cougars with a kill by Katherine Hart.  The Cougars tied the game at 17-17 on a kill by Lindsey Kane.  The game went back and forth with no team gaining a big advantage on the other.  It took three game point before the Spartans got the win with a Branagan Fuller kill.

Game four saw six ties before the Courgars take the lead at 15-10.  Charleston held the lead and didn’t relinquish the lead the remainder of the game.  Charleston closed out the match with two kills by Kane and Patrick to win the game 30-23.
