SPARTANBURG, SC -- The 2007 Southern Conference Volleyball Championship kicks off this Friday, November 16 and will continue through Sunday, November 18 with the championship match. All rounds will be played at Maclellan gym on the campus of UT-Chattanooga.
College of Charleston clinched the top seed in the tournament and claimed its seventh consecutive regular season title after going 16-2 in conference play. Appalachian State earned the second seed in the tournament with a 14-4 conference record. Furman and Chattanooga had identical conference records at 13-5 but Furman received the third seed due to the tie breaker over Chattanooga. Chattanooga will be the fourth seed in the tournament.
UNC Greensboro and Elon ended conference play with 11-7 records in conference. Elon gets the fifth seed due to the tie breaker. UNC Greensboro will be the sixth seed in the tournament. Davidson and Georgia Southern came into the tournament with the same records but Davidson ended the regular with a win over Georgia Southern and propelled them ahead in the tournament seeding. Davidson is the seventh seed and Georgia Southern is the eighth seed.
First round action begins at 10:00 a.m. on Friday with seventh-seeded Georgia Davidson taking on the second-seeded Appalachian State. At 12:30 p.m., six-seeded UNC Greensboro will face the third-seeded Furman. Eighth seeded Georgia Southern plays one-seeded College of Charleston at 4:30 p.m. At 7:00, fourth seeded Chattanooga will play fifth-seeded Elon.
The winner of the College of Charleston/Georgia Southern match will play the winner of the Chattanooga/Elon match on Saturday November 17 at 2:00 p.m. The winner of the Appalachian State/Davidson match will play the winner of Furman/UNC Greensboro match at 4:30 on Saturday afternoon. The Championship match will take place on Sunday at 2:00
