SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Furman’s Briana da Mota was named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week.  A standout on Furman’s soccer team, da Mota has a 3.96 grade point average in communications and political science.

The goalie helped the Lady Paladins to a Southern Conference soccer title by stopping 19 shots  and allowing only one goal in 198:58 minutes.  The Lilburn, Ga., native had nine saves and a shutout that gave Furman a victory over regionally-ranked Davidson 1-0 in double overtime.

Against UNC Greensboro, da Mota had nine saves and allowed only one goal as the Lady Paladins defeated UNC Greensboro, 3-1, and broke their 25-match Southern Conference unbeaten streak.  She has eight shutouts on the season and that moves her into a tie for ninth on Furman’s single season shutout ledger.
