SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State’s Casey Cleary and Western Carolina’s Shannon Fowkes have been named Southern Conference Co-Women’s Soccer Players of the Week.

Cleary found the back of the net four times on the week, beginning with the game-winning goal against South Carolina State on Wednesday. The junior forward then netted the SoCon’s first hat trick of the season in a 4-3 loss to Furman, scoring three times in a 19-minute span during ASU’s second half rally.

Fowkes was a consistent performer last week, collecting a goal in each of Western Carolina’s two league victories. A sophomore from Smithsburg, Md., Fowkes scored in the Catamounts’ 3-0 win over Appalachian State on Friday. She followed that performance with another goal as WCU topped The Citadel, 2-1, on Sunday.

Other top performers from the week were College of Charleston forward Brittany Schneider, The Citadel midfielder Emily Haller, Davidson forward Blakely Low, Elon midfielder Katina Boozer, UNC Greensboro defender Jamie Corti and Wofford forward Blair Green.
