ORANGEBURG, S.C. - The Appalachian State women’s soccer team found the winning form on Wednesday afternoon by defeating South Carolina State 1-0. Appalachian improves to 6-1-3 after going winless in their last two outings. The SCSU Bulldogs fall to 2-7-0 in the loss.

Appalachian’s lone goal was scored by sophomore Jennifer MacNeill who netted her first goal of the season. Assisting MacNeill was junior Casey Cleary. The 19th minute goal is the sixth of MacNeill’s career.

Freshman Carolina Clarke returned from injury to earn the start in goal. Clarke earns her third shutout of the season to push her record to 2-0-1. She made four saves to push her season total to 16.

The Mountaineers outshot the Bulldogs 19-4 and forced 10 corner kicks while only conceding one. ASU was whistled for fouls nine times and drew only seven infractions. Appalachian worked forward all afternoon and was caught offsides six times.

The Mountaineers will now travel to SoCon rival Western Carolina on Friday, October 5 at 5:00 p.m.
