SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Four Southern Conference men’s soccer teams are ranked in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA)/adidas South region top 10 rankings released Tuesday.
Third-ranked Furman (8-1-0, 1-0-0) is the highest-rated Southern Conference squad, maintaining the same position for the third-consecutive week. The Paladins are also ranked in the NSCAA/adidas national poll, checking in at the 22nd spot, after opening SoCon play with a 4-0 win over Georgia Southern.
Following a West coast road trip over the weekend, College of Charleston (6-2-1, 0-0-0) jumped from seventh to fifth in the poll. The Cougars played to a 0-0 draw with Stanford before falling to San Jose State.
Elon and Appalachian State are new entries to the top 10 this week with each school maintaining identical 5-2-2 overall records. The Phoenix, winners at Davidson on Sunday night, currently sit in first place in the league standings with a perfect 2-0-0 mark. Appalachian State is 1-0-0 is conference play, following a 4-0 victory over UNC Greensboro in Boone last Wednesday.
Elon looks to continue its six-match unbeaten streak against nationally top-ranked Wake Forest on Tuesday night in Winston-Salem, N.C. Appalachian State hosts conference-foe Wofford on Wednesday before traveling to battle Elon Saturday night. College of Charleston looks to get back into the win column against Winthrop Wednesday evening, while Furman puts its perfect league ledger on the line with road contests at UNC Greensboro on Wednesday and Davidson on Sunday.
