Former Furman All-America pitcher Tom Mastny earned the victory for the Cleveland Indians in the Tribe’s 13-6 victory over the Boston Red Sox in Game Two of the American League Championship Series early Sunday morning.

With the score tied 6-6, Mastny came on relief in the bottom of the 10th inning and retired in order Boston’s David Ortiz, Manny Ramirez, and Mike Lowell to send the contest into the 11th innning.  In the top of the 11th, the Indians roughed up Red Sox relievers Eric Gagne, Javier Lopez, and Jon Lester for seven runs to stake Cleveland to a 13-6 lead.  Joe Borowski worked a scoreless bottom of the frame to seal the win for the Indians.

Mastny (1-0) pitched two innings of scoreless ball in Cleveland’s 10-3 ALCS Game One loss to the Red Sox on Friday.  In two ALCS games he has hurled three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and recording two strikeouts.

During the 2007 regular season Mastny appeared in 51 games and posted a

7-2 record with a 4.68 earned run average.

The Zionsville, Ind., native was tabbed 2003 Southern Conference Pitcher-of-the-Year and became the Paladins’ first All-American after going 11-2 with an NCAA best 1.09 ERA while helping Furman to a school season record 32 wins, including victories over North Carolina State, South Carolina, and pair of triumphs over Clemson.

Following graduation, he became the second highest draft selection in Furman history when he was picked in the 11th round by the Toronto Blue Jays. He was traded by the Blue Jays to Cleveland in December of 2004.

Game Three of the 2007 ALCS is set for Monday at 7:00 p.m. at Cleveland’s Jacobs Field.
