Charleston, S.C.- After battling back to tie the match, Charleston Southern pulled away from The Citadel and won the contest 3-1.

In the 25th minute, CSU got on the board first when Marky Boyce beat a Bulldog defender to slot the ball into the right corner of the net, past goalkeeper Britni Bunnell. Boyce had three shots, a goal and an assist.

Despite being down one goal, the Bulldog offense turned up the pressure and created quality scoring opportunities. Freshman Nicole Martinoli fired the first Bulldog shot of the game, but was saved by Buc’s goalkeeper Jena Uvalle. Unvalle had four saves in goal.

Coming back from halftime, the Bulldogs were ready to play. Their hard-work was rewarded when in the 65th minute, freshman Jessa Scott scored the equalizer off a pass from junior Emily Haller. Scott’s shot found its way into the right corner of the net, out of reach for Uvalle. Scott scored on her only shot of the game.

After a defensive breakdown, CSU went back on top when Sarah Catenacci released a shot that skidded past Bunnell putting the Bucs ahead 2-1. CSU’s scoring attack continued when Boyce connected with Michelle Dennis, who went one-on-one with Bunnell and beat her to the right side.

The Citadel (3-10-0, 0-4) had seven shots to Charleston Southern’s 28. Britni Bunnell had another stellar performance in the net, notching 10 saves.
