Mylton and Creed record Top 10 finish as Spartans finish third at Myrtle Beach Classic

MYRTLE BEACH, SC ? Ashley Mylton carded a 72 and Erica Creed shot a 73 on Tuesday to help UNC Greensboro to a third place finish at the Myrtle Beach Classic hosted by Coastal Carolina at Grande Dunes Resort GC.
Mylton’s 72 placed her in a tie for fourth place individually, while Creed, just a freshman playing in her second collegiate tournament, finished in a tie for eighth. Mylton, who recorded the third Top 5 finish of her college career, finished one shot out of a playoff for first place. East Carolina’s Abby Bools won the tournament on the fifth playoff hole after carding a two-day total of 142.
East Carolina won the team title at 578, one shot better than Georgia State. UNCG finished third, carding rounds of 297 and 298 for a tournament total of 595. UNCG’s third place finish was the best among four Southern Conference teams in the tournament.
The Spartans return to action October 15 when they host the UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.

Elon Ties for Seventh at Myrtle Beach
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. ? Danielle Mills fired a two-over-par 74 in final-round action as Elon ended up in a seventh-place tie with College of Charleston at the 2007 Myrtle Beach Classic women’s golf tournament Tuesday afternoon at the Grande Dunes Resort Golf Club.
Mills (74-74?148) landed in a five-way tie for 14th place in the 84-golfer field on the 6,136-yard course. Samantha Widmer (Tied-25th/76-75?151), Kelsey Johnson (Tied-33rd/78-75?153), Frederique Bruell (Tied-33rd/75-78?153) and Taylor Johnson (Tied-53rd/82-76?158) all represented the Phoenix in the two-day, two-round event.
East Carolina (291-287?578) won the 15-team, 36-hole tournament, followed in the top-10 by Georgia State (287-292?579), UNC Greensboro (297-298?595), Miami (299-297?596), Campbell (302-295?597), UNC Wilmington (299-303?602), Elon (303-300?603), Charleston (295-308?603), East Tennessee State (303-301?604) and Old Dominion (308-311?619).
Host Coastal Carolina (309-315?624), Western Carolina (312-313?625), Southern Illinois (320-314?634), Methodist (323-315?638) and Charleston Southern (322-327?649) rounded out the field. East Carolina’s Abby Bools (74-68?142) claimed medalist honors.
Wofford finishes tied for 11th at women's golf tournament

WAYNESVILLE, N.C. -- The Wofford women's golf team concluded play Sunday at the Great Smokies Collegiate with an 11th-place tying result out of 24 schools on the par 72, 5,920-yard Waynesville Country Club course in Waynesville, N.C.
Freshman Alex Rankin paced the Terriers with an 18th-place tying finish following a 72-78--150 (+6). Junior Erin Wells, an All-Southern Conference selection a year ago, tied for 23rd after she registered a 75-77--152 (+8).
Rookie Meredith Few and sophomore Sarah Herbert ended action within one stroke of another. Few posted a 16-over par 78-82--160 to tie for 62nd, just ahead of Herbert's 81-80--161 (+17) and 69th-place tying result.
Sophomore Ellen Kvarby concluded the Wofford contingent with an 82-83--165 (+21) to tie for 89th.
The Terriers tied Kennesaw State for 11th following a 306-317--623 (+47), while Chattanooga captured the team title with a 15-over par 591, one stroke ahead of Elon.
South Alabama's Elin Andersson maintained her individual lead to garner medalist honors with a 3-under par 141.
Wofford will next compete at the Lady Paladin Invitational, Oct. 19-21, at the Furman University Golf Course in Greenville, S.C.

CofC Women's Golf Finished Tied for Seventh at Myrtle Beach Classic

Myrtle Beach, S.C. - Steffi Kirchmayr shot a 72 in the second round to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team to a tie for seventh at the Myrtle Beach Classic held Sept. 24-25 at the Grande Dunes Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Charleston, along with Elon, totaled a 308 in 36 holes. East Carolina won the event after firing a tournament-low 287 in today's round.
Kirchmayr totaled a 143 in the tournament to finish tied for fourth. Fiona Puyo shot a 151 to tie for 25th, while Joanna Klatten fired a 154 to tie for 38th. Katie Scholten tied for 41 with her 155 and tied for 60th was Courtney Brink with her 160.
Two Cougars competed as individuals, with Emily Rapp tying for 38th with a 154. Kelly White tied for 73rd with a 165.
Charleston next competes at the Lady Tarheel Invitational in Chapel Hill, N.C. Oct. 5-7.
