SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson and UNC Greensboro’s Kristen Boone have been named the Women’s Basketball Co-Players of the Week for the week of Jan. 9.

Anderson, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., recorded three double-doubles to help lead the Lady Mocs to a 2-1 record last week.  She tied a career-high in scoring with 28 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and had three blocked shots in the 71-68 loss to UNC Greensboro on Tuesday.  The forward recorded 15 points and pulled down 12 boards in the Lady Mocs 84-74 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday.  Against league-leading Davidson on Monday, she scored 23 points, dished out four assists and notched 10 rebounds.

For the week, Anderson averaged 22.0 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.  She also added six blocked shots and six assists.  This is her fourth player of the week selection this season.

Boone, a junior from Upper Marlboro, Md., led the Spartans to three league wins last week.  She scored 15 points and had four steals in UNCG’s win over Chattanooga on Tuesday, snapping the Lady Mocs 33-game Southern Conference regular season win streak.  The guard recorded a career-high 27 points and six steals in the 67-53 victory over Furman on Saturday.  She had three assists, three steals and scored seven points in the Spartans 80-55 win over Georgia Southern on Monday.

For the week, Boone averaged 16.3 points per game and added 13 steals and 11 assists.  She is among the league’s leaders in steals averaging 3.67 a game.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Jaime Bennett, College of Charleston’s Nikki Williams, Elon’s Nikko King, Georgia Southern’s Chequilla Jessie, Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson and Wofford’s Summer Nichols.
