ASU's Nate Cranford Named SoCon, National Men's Basketball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Appalachian State’s Nathan Cranford has been named the Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from January 3 through January 8.

Cranford, a senior from Harrisburg, N.C., led the Mountaineers to a 77-63 win over Chattanooga on January 6. The guard set an Appalachian State record with 10 treys in the win, shooting 71.4 percent from the floor and 90.9 percent from beyond the arc. His 10 three-pointers ties for third in SoCon history, the most since GSU’s Elton Nesbit hit 11 in 2005. It also ranks fourth in the NCAA individual game-highs this season.

On the week, Cranford added five rebounds and two steals to his 30 points. He also hit six treys in two other performances this season (Virginia and Central Florida).  His 90.9 percent shooting from three-point range against Chattanooga is also a season-high in the SoCon this year. He was also named the Mid-Major Player of the Week by collegeinsider.com.

Other top performers include College of Charleston’s Josh Jackson, The Citadel’s Kevin Hammack, Chattannooga’s Keddric Mays, Davidson’s Thomas Sander, Elon’s LeVonn Jordan, Georgia Southern’s Louis Graham, UNCG’s Kyle Hines, Western Carolina’s Nick Aldridge and Wofford’s Eric Marshall.
