SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 30.
Anderson, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., averaged a double-double last week to lead the Lady Mocs to two victories in league action. On Saturday the forward finished with 17 points and 16 rebounds in the 58-50 victory over Elon to notch her 12th double-double of the season. She scored 23 points and was 8-of-13 from the field in an 83-66 win at UNCG on Monday. She also added five assists, a blocked shot and nine rebounds.
For the week, Anderson averaged 20.0 points and 12.5 rebounds per game and shot 60 percent from the field. She leads the league in scoring with 22.6 points per game in league contests. This is her fifth player of the week honor.
Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Maria Grimes, Elon’s Tiffany Davis, Georgia Southern’s Tiffany Brown, UNCG’s Jasmine Byrd, Western Carolina’s Ashley Pellom and Wofford’s Kelly Dwyer.
