SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for games played from December 19 through January 1.

Anderson, a junior from Stone Mountain, Ga., led the Lady Mocs to a 3-0 record over the holidays. The forward started the trip with 22 points, eight rebounds and five assists in a 96-62 win at Wofford on December 19. She then tallied 23 points and nine boards against UNC Asheville on December 21 before the Mocs took a nine-day break. Anderson finished the week with a career-high 28 points and 12 field goals as well as pulled down eight rebounds in a 69-59 win over Elon on December 30.

On the week, Anderson averaged 24.3 points and 8.3 rebounds while picking up 11 assists, eight blocks and seven steals. She also shot 54.7 percent from the floor. Her 28 points against Elon marked the sixth time this season she has scored 20 or more points.

Other top performers include Appalachian States Whitney Tossie, College of Charleston’s Jill Furstenburg, Davidson’s Danielle Hemerka, Furman’s Chrissy Phelps, Georgia Southern’s Tiffany Brown, UNCG’s Jasmine Byrd, Western Carolina’s Chevon Keith and Wofford’s Kelsi Koenig.
