SoCon Announces Track & Field Athletes of the Week

Vonteena Knotts? Appalachian State
Junior ? Matthews, N.C., (Butler HS)
Vonteena jumped an NCAA qualifying mark of 20-8 in the long jump and is currently ranked third in the nation. She also won the triple jump with a leap of 39-8.75 and ran a 7.11 in the 55 meters in the meet held in Boone, N.C. on December 2nd. Along with being a student-athlete Vonteena is also an ASU Student Ambassador. Congratulations to Vonteena Knotts on being this week’s women’s athlete of the week.
Other top performers:
Raquel Ramseur, Jr, Western Carolina (Marketing and Sociology Major 3.21 GPA) Raquel won the 200 meters in a track record time of 24.59 at the ASU Opener held on December 2nd. She also won the 400 meters in 56.17 and ran a leg of the winning 4 x 400 relay. Raquel was named NCAA Academic All-American last year.
Jess Weber, Jr, UNCG (Lorton, Va.) - Elementary Education Major 3.96 GPA) Jess finished third in the 3K at the UNC Opener with a time of 10:54, in her first ever race at that distance.
Stephanie McNeill, Sr, The Citadel (Chemistry Major) Stephanie finished sixth at the Clemson Opener in December with a school record throw of 54-6.5 in the 20 lb. weight. She is currently ranked first in the conference as she added almost two feet to her own record. She also finished fourth in the shot with a toss of 43-4.25. Stephanie plans to attend medical school upon graduation.
