Western Carolina's Monique Dawson Earns Women's Basketball Player of the Week Honor

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Western Carolina’s Monique Dawson has been named the Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 16.

Dawson, a junior from Charlotte, N.C., led Western Carolina to a perfect week last week, including two league wins on the road.  The guard tied a career-high in scoring with 24 points in the Lady Catamounts 80-72 overtime triumph over Chattanooga on Saturday.  The win snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Lady Mocs and marked only the fourth time WCU has won at Chattanooga.  She finished with 12 points, three assists and pulled down seven rebounds in the 73-68 victory over Georgia Southern on Monday.

For the week, Dawson averaged 18.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game.  She is among the league’s leaders in scoring averaging 13.3 points per game.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Whitney Ketner, Chattanooga’s Alex Anderson, College of Charleston’s Nikki Williams, Davidson’s Honna Housley, Georgia Southern’s Chequilla Jessie and Wofford’s Liz Miller.
