Spartanburg, S.C. -- The Southern Conference today named Furman football player Adi Filipovic as the TIAA-CREF Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of September 6.
Filipovic, an offensive guard from Martinez, Ga., led the Paladins to a 17-13 win over Jacksonville State on September 2 to open the 2006 football season. He made his first career start against the Gamecocks at right guard and graded out at 84.3 percent on 51 plays. Filipovic helped the Furman offense compile 314 yards of total offense and anchored the offensive line that cleared the way for fullback Jerome Felton, who recorded 88 yards on 18 carries.
Off the field, Filipovic graduated summa cum laude in June with a 3.92 GPA and a degree in economics and math. The four-time member of the SoCon Academic Honor Roll is currently working toward a second degree.
