Elon's Anna Mae Flynn Named Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week

RUNNER OF THE WEEK

Anna Mae Flynn ? Elon

Sophomore ? Banner Elk, NC (Watauga HS)

Anna won the South Carolina Invitational out kicking USC’s number one runner in a time of 18:30.  Elon finished second to South Carolina and Anna’s time was a personal best and school record by 10 seconds.

 

 

Other Top Performances:

Karen Corson, freshman from College of Charleston:

Karen placed seventh overall and was the Cougars number two runner at the South Carolina Invitational last Friday.  Karen ran an eight second personal best time in her first collegiate race with an 18:55.  She is from Chagrin Fall, Ohio and is a pre-med major.

 

Jenna Wrieden, graduate student from Appalachian State:

Jenna was sixth overall and the fourth collegian at the Covered Bridge run in a time of 18:34 on a rain soaked course.  She led her team to a second place finish in a field that included Florida State, Coastal Carolina and Davidson.  She is working towards a master’s degree in Exercise Science; she is graduate of Arizona State University.

 

Jess Weber, senior from UNC-Greensboro:

Jess ran an 11:02, 3k split at the Charlotte Relay held at McAlpine Park over the weekend.  She put her team in the lead in a race that included UNC Charlotte and Virginia Intermont. She is an elementary education major and is a SoCon and all-region Academic award winner with a 3.96 GPA.  She also holds the school record for the 800 and 1500 meters. 

 

 

Katheryn Gatewood, freshman from The Citadel:

Katheryn was the ninth collegian at the South Carolina Invitational in a school record and personal best time of 18:59.  Katheryn is from El Paso, TX and became the first female to ever break 19 minutes in The Citadel’s nine year history of women’s cross country.
