SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Appalachian State’s Jennifer MacNeill and Furman’s Gena Villari have been named the Southern Conference Women’s Soccer Co-Players of the Week for the week of September 5.
MacNeill, a freshman from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., led the Mountaineers to a 1-1 record last week at the SoCon/Big South Challenge, hosted by Charleston Southern. She recorded ASU’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Coastal Carolina on Sept. 2. MacNeill then tallied the game-winning goal in the Mountaineer’s 3-2 win over Charleston Southern on Sept. 4.
On the week, MacNeill scored two goals on just two shots.
Villari, a junior from Raleigh, N.C., led the Lady Paladins to 2-1 record last week including the tournament title at the Mercer LQ Cup. She started the week with the lone goal in a 3-1 loss to Gardner-Webb on August 30. Villari then picked up two goals and an assist in Furman’s 4-0 win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 3, clinching the tournament title for the Lady Paladins.
On the week, Villari recorded three goals on one assist for seven points.
Other top performers include College of Charleston’s Erin Smith, Chattanooga’s Stacey Matthiessen, The Citadel’s Sarah Burke and Wofford’s Jessica Connett.
