CofC's Marie Dobrenz Tabbed Molten Volleyball Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Southern Conference announced today that College of Charleston’s Marie Dobrenz has been named the Molten Volleyball Player of the Week for September 4.

 

Dobrenz, a senior from Torrance, Calif., led the Cougars to a 3-1 record over the last week, including a 2-1 record at the Four Points Titan Classic in Fullerton, Calif. She started the week with 27 digs and three assists in a 3-1 win over San Diego State on August 30. Dobrenz followed her performance by anchoring the defense in three matches for College of Charleston at the Four Points Titan Classic. In the championship game against Cal State Fullerton, Dobrenz tallied 38 digs and was part of a strong defensive effort in a 3-1 loss to Cal State Fullerton.

 

On the week, Dobrenz recorded 100 digs, including a 38-dig effort which places her in the AVCA 30-digs club for 2006. She also tallied four service aces, five assists and committed only one error.

 

Other top performers include Appalachian State Brittany Zahn, Davidson’s Jenna Dykstra, Elon’s Jessica Barrow, Furman’s Courtney Stewardson, Georgia Southern’s Christy Dowd, UNC Greensboro’s Theresa Hart and Western Carolina’s Liz Rondone.
