Brooks earns medal in Great American Cross Country Festival
HOOVER, Ala. -- Bryan Brooks of the Wofford men’s cross country team earned a medal for his 13th place finish in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Hoover, Ala., which helped his team to an 11th place finish in the meet.
Brooks’ time of 28:26.60 in the 8k run was good enough to place in the top 15 of the 109-man field and earn the first medal of the year for the Terriers.
Brooks and his teammates struggled through extreme heat and humidity and a grueling course with numerous hills in the middle miles.
“This was a very difficult course and the heat made it even more demanding,” head coach Andrea Stehman said. “But everyone persevered and gave great effort.”
Also among the top finishers for the Terriers were Justin Hunter (31:25.50), Josh Shumaker (31:58.70) and Tommy Weber (33:18.10).
“I am very happy with everyone’s effort at the meet,” head coach Andrea Stehman said. “It was a great chance to compete with some of the best programs in the nation and it was a great experience for us.”
The Terrier cross country teams will get a week off before competing in the Gardner-Webb Duals on Friday, Oct. 6, in Boiling Springs, S.C.

Women's cross country finishes 8th; Bosshardt earns medal
The women’s cross country team finished eighth out of 20 participating teams in the Great American Cross Country Festival in Hoover, Ala., on Saturday, Sept. 24, thanks to a 13th place finish from Lauren Bosshardt.
Bosshardt earned a medal for her 20:49.10 finish in the demanding 5k run that put runners through a very hilly course in extreme heat and humidity.
“This was a very difficult course and the heat made it even more demanding,” head coach Andrea Stehman said. “But everyone persevered and gave great effort.”
Also among the top finishers for the Terrier women were Justina Olivia (22:01.40), Mandy Mills (22:58.10) and Jessie Sahms (23:00.40).

The Terriers finished ahead of top division-I programs such as Florida State and South Carolina.
The Terrier cross country teams will get a week off before competing in the Gardner-Webb Duals on Friday, Oct. 6, in Boiling Springs, N.C.

Cross Country Squads Finish Second; Flynn Wins

PLEASANT GARDEN, N.C.- Both the men and women's cross country teams placed second at the Old North State Championship on Saturday morning at Hagan-Stone Park. High Point took the title on both sides.
Anna Mae Flynn registered a time of 18:50.2 to finish first in a field of 115 runners. Teammate Caitlin Beeler came in fourth with a time of 19:11.4 while Katelyn Ealer also placed in the top-10 finishing sixth with a time of 19:18.6.
Jessica Doan finished 11th with a time of 19:49.3 and Alissa Wilke ran a 20:07.0, finishing 13th to round out Elon's top-five finishers.
Katie White placed 17th with a time of 20:14.3 while Kelly Chencharik finished 21st with a time of 20:26.1 and Colleen McCarthy placed 22nd with a time of 20:27.8.
Amy Sulser (25th/20:40.6), Caroline Corbyons (29th/21:04.7), Alana Morro (31st/21:10.3), Meaghan Dolan (37th/21:42.1), Meghan Atkinson (43rd/21:59.0), Sarah Robinson (64th/23:31.1) and Alison Smith (65th/23:34.2) all competed for the Phoenix.
Adam Lindsey was Elon's top finisher on the men's side. Lindsey finished 11th with a time of 27:25.3 while teammate Eric Garren placed 13th with a 27:35.8 time. Eric Lewandowski ran a time of 27:43.2 to finish 15th while Jason MacCollum finished 19th with a time of 28:02.5 and Justin Garren placed 22nd with a time of 28:33.1 to complete Elon's top-five.
Andrew Hawkey finished 40th with a time of 29:57.3 while Will Bertram ran a time of 31:03.3 to finish 48th. Glen Cornell (51st/31:28.5), John Maconi (53rd/31:40.9), David Wells (56th/32:05.6) and Malcolm White (58th/32:12.2) all competed for Elon.
Elon returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the George Mason Invitational.
