Furman 3, Wofford 0

Spartanburg, S.C. -- Kerry Wooten recorded 11 kills, and Furman hit .311 as a team as the Paladins defeated Wofford 3-0 (30-20, 30-24, 30-24) at Benjamin Johnson Arena on Tuesday night.

 

Wooten reached double-figures in kills for the sixth time this season and added four total blocks for the Paladins. Whitney Purser tallied 10 kills against only one hitting error for a .450 hitting percentage.

 

Alison West lead the Furman hitting attack with a .714 (6-1-7) mark.

Nicole Palazzo also contributed to the hitting performance with nine kills and a .375 hitting percentage.

 

Sarah Twitty led the Terriers with a game-high 14 kills. Carolyn Rivers also recorded a game-high 11 digs.

 

With the win, Furman improves to 7-7 on the season, and a perfect 3-0 in the Southern Conference. Wofford falls to 4-8 overall, 0-4 in conference play. Furman returns to action this weekend with conference road games at The Citadel on Friday and College of Charleston on Saturday.

 

 

Collge of Charleston 3, Winthrop 0

College of Charleston ended Winthrop's 15-match winning streak as the Cougars swept the Eagles, 3-0 (30-26, 30-13, 30-27), in a non-conference match Tuesday night in Rock Hill, S.C.

 

Charleston improved its record to 9-5 overall, while Winthrop falls to 16-2.

 

Tiffany Blum hit a .464 clip to lead the Cougars with 15 kills.  She added four blocks.

 

Emily Sawin had 13 kills on .455 hitting, with four digs and three blocks. Annie Uthe had five kills on .364 hitting and five blocks.

 

Lindsey Kane dished out 38 assists, while hitting a .222 for the Cougars.

 

The defensive effort was led by Marie Dobrenz with 17 digs, followed by Alexis Lowes with 10.

 

The Cougars held Winthrop to .145 hitting.  The Eagles were led by Taryn Surbaugh with 11 kills on .417 hitting.

 

Charleston, 3-0 in Southern Conference action, will take on  conference foe Wofford Friday night at 7 p.m., followed by a 2 p.m. match against Furman on Saturday.
