SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Davidson’s Bevin English has been named the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 26.

English, a junior goalkeeper from Charleston, S.C., allowed only one goal last week to lead the Wildcats to a 3-0 record including a 3-1 conference win over Georgia Southern on Sunday.  She notched four saves in the 3-0 win over Charlotte on Tuesday.   In the first-ever meeting between UC Santa Barbara and Davidson, English had a week-high five saves in the 1-0 victory on Friday and recorded her second shutout of the week and third of the season.

On the week, English tallied nine saves in three matches.  She also had a goals against average of 0.33 and improved her record to 4-3-1 on the year.  English is among the league’s leaders in saves percentage and goals against average.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Casey Cleary, Chattanooga’s Stacey Matthiessan, College of Charleston’s Kelly McGinty, Furman’s Anna Betton, Western Carolina’s Alesha Row and Wofford’s Whitney Steelman.
