Furman’s Jerome Felton and Appalachian State’s Dexter Jackson Honored as Sports Network I-AA Players of the Week and I-AA.org All-Stars of the Week.

 

Furman fullback Jerome Felton and Appalachian State punt returner Dexter Jackson have been honored as I-AA Players of the Week by The Sports Network, the division’s most widely recognized sports information service.  The two were also named to the I-AA.org Weekly All-Stars.

 

Felton ran for a school and conference record six touchdowns to lead Furman past Western Carolina, 42-7, in a battle of ranked teams. Jackson turned a close game into a rout by returning back-to-back punts for touchdowns in Appalachian State’s 41-6 victory at Gardner-Webb.

 

CO- OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

Jerome Felton, Furman ? Junior, Fullback, 6-0, 248, Madisonville, TN

 

Felton rushed for a school and Southern Conference record six touchdowns to lead No. 4 Furman to a 42-7 win over No. 22 Western Carolina...Scored five of his six TD’s in the first half to help the Paladins to a 35-7 halftime advantage...Ran 20 times for 102 yards...Touchdown runs covered 13, 2, 2, 5, 1 and 1 yards and came on the Paladins’ first six possessions...Leads I-AA in scoring for the season (12 TD, 18.5 ppg) and has scored 10 touchdowns in Furman’s last two games.

 

SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

 

Dexter Jackson, Appalachian State ? Junior, WR/RS, 5-10, 170, Dunwoody, GA

 

Broke open a close game early in the third quarter by returning back-to-back punts for touchdowns as Appalachian State went on to beat Gardner-Webb, 41-6...With the Mountaineers leading 13-3, Jackson recorded an 86-yard return for a score...On the next punt, he went 68 yards for a touchdown to put the Mountaineers up, 27-3...Became the first Mountaineer player to return two punts for a touchdown in one game...Recorded the first punt return TD at Appalachian State since 2002.
