Rutz finished 2nd of 120 runners in the Winthrop Asics Invitational last weekend. He ran the 8K in 26:06 (a personal record for Xavier by 1:30). There were six schools competing at the meet, including four other SoCon schools.

Phill Mitchell, Fr (RS), Appalachian State (Glastonbury, Conn. ? Exercise Science Major) Phill was the first collegian at the WCU Open in Cullowhee last Friday night. He covered the 6210m course in 19:34. Mitchell led the Mountaineers to a 30-34 victory over Georgia and six other teams. As part of the meet, ASU defeated instate and SoCon rival, WCU, with a perfect score of 15, to win the battle for the brown jug. Mitchell has been the top collegian finisher in each of his first two meets.
