SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that The Citadel’s Rachelle Ornelas has been named the Women’s Soccer Player of the Week for the week of September 19.

Ornelas, a freshman forward from Indian Rocks Beach, Fla., notched her first collegiate goals on Tuesday against South Carolina State.  She scored two goals in the match to lead the Bulldogs to their first victory of the 2006 season.  Ornelas scored one goal and also recorded her first collegiate assist against Youngstown State at The Citadel adidas Soccer Classic over the weekend.

On the week, Ornelas tallied seven points on three goals and one assist. She also had 11 shots including nine shots on goal.  Ornelas is also among the league’s leaders in points and goals.

Other top performers include Appalachian State’s Caroline Lowe, College of Charleston’s Emily Morgan, Chattanooga’s Melyna Valdez, Georgia Southern’s Lauren Santos and Western Carolina’s Heather Dittmer.
