SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Grant Guthrie has been named the Men’s Soccer Player of the Week for September 18.

Guthrie, a junior from Harlem, Ga., led the Cougars to a 4-2 win over UAB on September 15 in Charleston’s first game of the Jim N’Nicks/Puma BSC Classic in Birmingham, Ala. The midfielder tallied two goals in the match, the first in the first half to tie the game 1-1 going into the break. Guthrie then gave the Cougars thie lead at the 51 minute mark off an assist from David Levine.

Guthrie recorded four points on two goals on the week. He has three goals and two assists on the season and is among the conference leaders in points, goals and assists.

Other top peformers from last week include Appalachian State’s Sean Sassano and Georgia Southern’s Jon Cox.
