SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Southern Conference announced today that Appalachian State’s Cassie Engelgau has been named the Molten Volleyball Player of the Week for the week of September 18.
Engelgau, a freshman libero from Lake Arrowhead, Calif., anchored the defense for a Mountaineers’ team that went 2-2 last week, including a conference win over Chattanooga. She tallied 24 digs in the Mountaineers’ 3-0 win over UTC in the conference opener. Engelgau reached the 30-plus dig mark twice last week, starting with 33 digs, her then career-high, against Tennesse Tech at the Lady Topper Invitational at Western Kentucky. She then set a new career-high with 42 digs in a win over Ball State, averaging 10.5 digs per game in the match. Engelgau also added a career-high five assists in her performance against Western Kentucky.
On the week, Engelgau tallied 110 digs in just four matches for the Mountaineers. She also averaged 6.88 digs per game and had 10 assists.
Other top performers include College of Charleston’s Emily Swain, Davidson’s Kittery Neale, Elon’s Mandy Wilson, Furman’s Nicole Palazzo, Western Carolina’s Liz Rondone and Wofford’s Liz Sheets.
