#2 Clemson 6, Wofford 0
CLEMSON, S.C. - The No. 2 Clemson Tigers opened up the scoring in the second half after taking an early advantage to claim a 6-0 victory over Wofford Tuesday night in men's soccer action.
The Tigers jumped out to a 1-0 lead at 18:50 when Frederico Moojen headed a cross from the right side while standing in front of Terrier goalkeeper Russ Sandifer. Moojen was fed the ball on assists from Dane Richards and Mark Buchholz.
Richards then added a tally of his own at 27:26 as he received a pass from Havird Usry then side-stepped a Wofford defender before drilling the ball home from 20 yards out at the top of the 18-yard box. Clemson rode the 2-0 advantage into halftime.
The Terriers had their first best chance to score in the 54th minute when Joel Kozak sent a direct kick from 20 yards out just high following a Tiger foul. Minutes earlier, at 50:15, Clemson added to its lead with a goal by Nathan Thornton on assists by Michael Brooks and Hector Quintanar which traveled past Wofford keeper Thomas Hunter III, who came on at halftime in relief of Sandifer.
At 59:37, Bryson Moore redirected a corner kick by Richards back across the goal mouth to the opposite lower right corner to push the Tiger edge to 4-0.
The fifth Clemson goal came at 71:22 when Brooks' redirected header via passes from Thornton and David Newton found the back of the net.
Moojen added a penalty kick tally at 85:52 following a Terrier foul inside the penalty area to provide the final margin.
Just under a minute left, Kozak sent a shot towards the Tiger cage that bounced back to Thomas Coley. Coley then headed his attempt at the wide-open goal just wide.
Wofford will return to action Sept. 22 at 5 p.m. when it travels to Nashville, Tenn., to face Lipscomb
