Boston 3, Georgia Southern 0

STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern men’s soccer team fell 3-0 Thursday afternoon to Boston University in the first-ever meeting of the two schools.  The Eagles are now 1-1 early in the season, while the Terriers improve to 2-0-1.

After a scoreless first half evenly fought on both sides, Georgia Southern sophomore Julian Donaldson threatened to put the first point on the scoreboard at 49:28, shooting a rocket that ended up hitting the crossbar. 

At the 52:13 mark, Boston sophomore Petur Sigurdsson headed the ball into the net after receiving a crossed pass from classmate Jon Jonsson.  It was Sigurdsson’s first of two goals of the game, putting the Terriers up 1-0. 

Five minutes later, Terrier freshman Samuel Appiah received a through ball from sophomore Dan Schultz, then found the back of the net for a 2-0 Boston lead.  At the 63:34 mark, Sigurdsson finished the day’s scoring, netting his second goal of the game after gathering a rebounded shot by Schultz.

Eagle goalkeeper Brian Young had six saves on the day as the both teams had six shots on goal.

Head Coach Kevin Kennedy said with many more contests on the schedule, this match was “good preparation for the conference games” later on in the season.

The Eagles will complete the third of a three-game homestand, Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against Stetson at Eagle Field.
